I like all birds, but I identify with some more than others. Perhaps its a kind of longing for connection, the kind of connection that can't be found in the human world. Most birders and wildlife photographers seem to have favorites. I remember hearing about a fellow who had the goal of seeing all the raptors in the world, a peculiar goal that adds some personality to the standard twitching theme. I don't know if I have a single favorite, but I know I like lapwings.

Favorites are an interesting thing for the wildlife photographer. They seem to give photographs something special. Perhaps that is because the good feelings that come with favorites bring some sort of connection with a thing and through some magic, the connection can appear in the photograph.
